Community reintegration occurs in an incremental process whereby resident
chosen long-term goals are broken down into smaller, concrete, more
readily achievable objectives that can be accomplished in a step-wise
fashion. These Stepping Stones enhance motivational consistency by providing
challenges that can be achieved without delay, and are manageable rather
than overwhelming.
The Behavioral Health Program consists of a combination of process/insight
oriented groups and psycho educational groups. Included among the groups
on the weekly schedule are: relapse prevention, coping skill identification
and development, solution focused psychotherapy, motivational enhancement,
and the physiology of chemical dependence. Other rehabilitative therapies,
that are offered by occupational therapy, recreation, and social services
include medication management, tai chi/yoga, power walks, money management,
leisure skills identification and meal preparation. The Stepping Stones
program strongly emphasizes increases in social and occupational functioning,
and as a means to the end, has recently added an educational program
to be interdisciplinary schedule. The educational program offers literacy
classes to improve client’s reading/writing, and G.E.D. classes
for client’s interested in acquiring their G.E.D. or strengthening
their academic skills.
